The Agile Predator: Indian Leopard

The Indian leopard is an apex predator, known for its adaptability in both dense forests and urban fringes. However, habitat loss and human conflict have pushed this species into precarious situations.

In a sanctuary in Rajasthan, a male leopard named Ravi became a local hero. Ravi was found as a young cub, orphaned after his mother was hit by a vehicle near a busy road. Brought to the sanctuary, Ravi was raised with care, learning essential survival skills in a controlled environment. His rehabilitation included mock hunts and exposure to the natural prey of the area, preparing him for rewilding.

When Ravi was released into a protected forest, rangers tracked his movements to ensure his safety. Over time, Ravi thrived, adapting quickly to his environment and establishing his own territory. His success has helped bolster the sanctuary’s efforts to create safer corridors for leopards to coexist with humans.
