The Amur tiger, also known as the Siberian tiger, is the largest of all tiger species and one of the most endangered. These magnificent cats are native to the dense forests of Russia’s Far East, where they are protected by a network of sanctuaries.
One such tiger, named Boris, was rescued as a cub after being found injured near a logging camp. Raised in a sanctuary, Boris underwent a rigorous rewilding program that taught him to hunt and survive independently. After his release into the wild, Boris was tracked by conservationists using GPS collars.
Over the years, Boris has established his territory and successfully fathered cubs, contributing to the fragile tiger population. His journey has been chronicled in documentaries, shining a spotlight on the urgent need to protect the Amur tiger’s habitat from illegal logging and poaching.
